seeing any -- we are not seeing any thunderstorms but you are having it in the southern alamance, southwestern orange, first alert doppler xp the most powerful radar in the carolinas there updating. southeastern wake county those look a little worse, they've in garner but they are chores to the radar site. smithfield and benton villeville showers. it sis to the north and we are seeing the push of moisture like this. orange county you can expect thunderstorms to work through the next half hour. chatham county they are weaken weakening as they come through. we have a wind advisory in effect at 9:00 this morning and going to midnight. they could gust up to 45 miles an hour. that is for almost the entire viewing area. it doesn't include halifax county or mecklinburg county in

we look at the day ahead i think it will be bumpy. we have scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder. we will see a push of warm air and we will see rain, wind, thunder possible. 68. this afternoon the alone of showers and thunderstorms work through to bring high winds. gusts could be 65 to 70 miles an hour and that is severe. we will talk about that and quiet saturday after today. john: thank you, don. barbara: before the worst of the weather rivers we have to get you through -- arrives we have to get you through the cute. john: gloria rodriguez will show us the conditions now and what you need to know if you get caught driving in the storms. gloria: i want to take you outside we are at capital boulevard right at the u.s. 1 and 401 split. it has been drizzling and a little foggy. don has been talking about the threat of a tornado so we have

these conditions. it is never a good idea to try to outrun a tornado in your car. also, don't stop under and overpass or for flying debris. back out here live you may wake up to wet roads so make sure you drive slowly and give yourself plenty of extra time to get to wherever you want to go. we will stay out here and monitor the roads. live in breaking news one, gloria rodriguez, abc 11 eyewitness news. john: thanks, gloria. all new this half hour video of the damage to what must have been a frightening scene. a reported tornado peeling off the roof of this gold's gym in prairieville, louisiana. you see insulation and one wall gone. dozens were inside the building working out at the time.

>> tornado warning in this area. take shelter now. extreme threat. >> this shows a funnel cloud orleans. then men appear to be driving over lake pontchartrain. we see damage to a home next to the airport. we continue warning you about the purr of these destructive storms. john: our crews and mobile vehicles are on standby as it gets closer. we will send out push alerts and updates on abc11.com and news app and can you track it on the first alert weather app. caitlin: sadly there are no survivors from a plane crash in nepal. it lost contact eight minutes after taking off from a resort town west of katmandu. it was heading north to a spot for hikeers going into the himalayas.

23 people on board are confirmed dead. you are looking at video from a local tv station and you see obviously some distraught families of passengers. officials say it appears the plane flew straight into a mountain. there was bad weather at the time. that flight was only supposed to take 18 minutes. we will follow this story from the breaking news center. >> if you listen to the pundits we were not speckexpected to win too much but we are winning,wins in nevada. going into super tuesday he leads in almost every state. john: now the question is there

anchor: welcome back. taking a look at radar we have a push of showers working through right now. we are not seeing severe weather at the moment but we have thunderstorms. we will zoom down to see thunderstorms in southern alamance county, northeastern cat ham and southern orange county with a couple of lightning strikes. this is pushing to the north so hillsborough is in heavy rain, you may hear thunder as well. temperatures across the region will be critical for us to see the severe weather today. 42 south hill.

46 r.d.: 46 sanford. fayetteville jumped into the 50's. you were in the 40's last hour. lumberton up to 56. we will see this push of warm air from the south that will really warm things up. looking at the day ahead we have scattered showers and 46. by lunchtime temperatures to 68 degrees and rain and wind and weekend advisory in effect by lunchtime going through this afternoon afternoon. we will talk more about the thunderstorm changeses in the seven-day forecast coming up next. barbara: thank you. the must-see video begins with the deadly tornadoes in the deep south. this stunning footage showing this twister hitting pensacola florida under the cover of darkness. when the lightning strikes you see the outline of the massive tornado. it slammed into an apartment complex injuring a number of people. it was part of the same storm system that spawned tornadoes in

now to this brawl breaking out in a chuck e. cheese. about 15 adults started throwing punches during a child's birthday party. this was sunday in manchester, connecticut. some of the kids were caught in it including a 1-year-old who was pushed down. officers showed up, the adults behind all of this were gone. police are looking for them. and an example of why you never want to go around the railroad crossing stop arms. you see the moment of impact the train slams into that tractor-trailer. the police officer races to check the driver who turns out to be ok. it was in january. minnesota's department of public safety just released this. john: happy 125th birthday to meredith college. it starts a week-long celebration today.

and rescue and hazardous material response team to be on standby. meteorologist don schwenneker is coming up in a few minutes with what you can expect from the storms and when they could be out of here. the same storm system is heading here is responsible for a tornado outbreak in four states. two were killed when a twister struck an r.v. park in louisiana last night. this morning authorities will continue searching for anyone who may still be trapped there. donald trump claims another victory in vote trick his third in a row. the republican presidential candidate scored big win in nevada. marco rubio and ted cruz locked in a battle for second. barbara: today the connecticut supreme court will hear arguments from prosecutors trying to reinstate the case of michael skakel. he was convicted in a 1975 murder of martha moxley and sentenced to 20 years to life.

he grew up in randolph county and will receive the congressional medal of honor award. last october he confronted a shooter at the community college. his decision likely saved other lives. he will be recognized in a ceremony at arlington national cemetery next month. barbara: meteorologist don schwenneker is here. severe weather heading our way. don: i think this afternoon could be problematic although any storm that forms later this morning will be a problem. the storm prediction center it norman, oklahoma, who watch out for tornadoes and they have put us under a moderate risk for severe weather. you see the red area there and that is basically the area between i-95 and i-85 and down to raleigh and down into sampson

you are under this higher severe risk. as far as what type of severe weather this is the forecast for the threat. flooding, you could have isolated flooding but that is relatively low. hail potential in storms this morning you could see hail fire. i think damaging winds, we have a high risk of damaging winds later opbn especially over 70 miles an hour and tornadoes. i don't think we will see a wide spread tornado outbreak the potential is there to see a couple of them. everything is right in the atmosphere for them to be big tornadoes. so we will have to watch for that. if we see a tornado it could be a problem. a live look into first alert doppler xp and we've got thunderstorms and lightning showing up on the tracker this morning. one down in southeastern orange county around carrboro sliding north-northeast so western durham county may see that. heavyier rain in hillsborough and alamance.

we have light to moderate rain over 540 headed to wake dress and southeast johnson county. another round of showers in sampson out lifting toward county. southeast. most of them are now in southeast georgia. the low is here and it will pull the moisture up into us and pull the warmer air into us later this morning. once that warm air is in place that is the recipe tpwhraoed to see strong storms later today. we are seeing the warm air pushing in a little. 55 clinton. 52 fayetteville. we are holding 40's in r.d.u. at 46, sanford 46. 44 roxboro and 48 wilson. by midmorning the temperatures are really going to jump. that is when we will see the line of showers around storms working through. the first alert predictor forecast model, let me tell you something about models. they don't always show

so where you see light green you say that doesn't look bad f. we see a thunderstorm the potential is there from late morning until early afternoon for it to be severe. this is the line for later today. this is consistently timing out between 4:00 and 7:00. once this works through late afternoon that is where we could see the straight line winds getting in excess of 70 miles an hour. it is something to watch for heart today. for this morning rain, wind, warming temperatures. by lunchtime in raleigh we are up to the upper 60's. we will see temperatures in the upper 60's this afternoon with strong thunderstorms. we will be near 70 today across the region with strong showers and thunderstorms and weekends gusting 40 to 45 miles an hour. because of that we are under a wind advisory from 9:00 this morning until midnight. it will clear and stay windy. that is why the advisory is to midnight. they could gust up to 35 miles an hour in the overnight hours. first alert seven-day forecast

thunder in spots and these storms are not severe. we have enough cooler air that is keeping it relatively stable but we are getting lightning on the tracker around alamance county and southwestern person county. we have thunderstorms, the same ones that rolled through chatham and western durham county and orange county earlier. sliding south we have heavier rain in wake forest and southwest of louisburg it will be raining there the next 15 minutes. near bailey, spring hope and wilson light showers. as far as weekend advisory, later this morning the national weather service has issued a wind advisory that goes into effect at 9:00 that will run through midnight. this has nothing to do with the storms, just wind gusts up to 45 miles an hour. you put a storm moving at 30 miles an hour with gusts at 45 and you have gusts into the 70 70-mile-per-hour range. that is why that is significant. quick check of the day ahead we
